2011 SportChek Outstanding Participant Award Recipient's
|
|
Shaun Robinson - Drumheller, AB
|
Tyler Berling - Sundre, AB
|
|
|
|
Shaun, 16, has been a Drumheller FunTeam participant for 7 years as a player and
now as a coach. As a player he showed great sportsmanship, respect for others (winning
awards for sportsmanship on 2 occasions), and skill (winning an award for most improved
player). As a coach he has shown dedication and caring for his rookie program team.
Once again, a prime example of a young person (and probable future community leader)
giving back to the community that nurtured him.
|
Tyler, 16, has been a FunTeam participant in Sundre RecTeam hockey for 8 years.
He has always enjoyed playing and has been a solid role model for other players
by his conduct on the ice, displaying respect and clean play. As a result, he has
gained the respect of coaches and peers. He is now involved as a volunteer coach
with a group of 4-6 year olds, an experience he thoroughly enjoys. Another fine
example of and indication that the future of the community is in good hands.
|
| This year FunTeam Alberta decided to award both of these exceptional participants with the SportChek Outstanding
Participant Award.

2011 Randy Gregg Volunteer Award Recipient John Salsbury - Sylvan Lake, AB
|
Congratulations to John Salsbury, of the Sylvan Lake FunTeam Hockey Group. The Sylvan
Lake FunTeam Hockey Group has grown by leaps and bounds in large measure due to
the influence of John Salsbury. His commitment to the principles of FunTeam with
the emphasis on fun and the building of self-esteem in all those in his charge has
made for a program which is attracting ever-increasing numbers of participants.
John has gone the extra mile to make sure that everyone feels welcome and is a valued
part of the FunTeam program. Through his influence the children in the program are
learning real life skills: commitment, responsibility, leadership, and respect for
the feelings of others, as this is what he models, and what he expects from those
in the program. John has gained the respect and admiration of the community of Sylvan
Lake for his tireless efforts to ensure that everyone who wants to can play, have
fun, in a safe, supporting environment. See John, pictured above, with his sons
Jonah & Noah. John's daughter Sara and youngest Ethan also participate in FunTeam
hockey in Sylvan Lake. FunTeam Alberta couldn't be prouder to award this team with
this year's Randy Gregg Volunteer Award.
